Putting the Pieces Together
Creating dimensional artwork is a piece of cake
Add dimension and heighten the visual interest of your stamping through paper piecing. This technique lets you use a single stamp to create multi-color, multi-dimensional artwork that is sure to impress. Read on to discover how simple it is!“Life Is Tweet” Card
You may have spotted this technique in the artwork for the June Stamp of the Month; paper piecing was used to create almost all of them! Let’s focus on the Life Is Tweet card to get an idea of how the technique comes together. In creating this card,- first, the Life Is Tweet image was stamped in Cocoa ink directly on the corresponding flower shape, which you may have noticed was cut from kraft cardstock using the Cricut® Art philosophy cartridge;
- next, the same image was stamped in Tulip ink on a piece of Colonial White cardstock;
- after trimming out the circle center of the Tulip stamped image, it was attached to the Cocoa stamped image using 3-D foam tape; since both parts are from the same single stamp image, everything lines up perfectly!
“Fluttering By...” Card
The “fluttering by” card pictured above is another great example, right out of the Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book. For this card,- the tree image from the My Acrylix® A Tree (A1124) set was stamped on Colonial White cardstock twice: once in Desert Sand ink and once in Sweet Leaf ink;
- the leafy tree-top was then trimmed out of the Sweet Leaf image and attached over the Desert Sand image using 3-D foam tape;
- the Desert Sand image below gives the leaves an automatic shadow, lending depth to the card and tying the layers together
